Introductory speech by Dr. Theres Rohde,
Director, Museum für konkrete Kunst Ingolstadt.
On the occasion of Knopp Ferro’s 70th birthday, Galerie Thomas is again looking forward to present his solo show as part of his international exhibition tour. Knopp Ferro’s metal sculptures seem to defy the laws of gravity; way beyond being fixed structures, they conquer the three-dimensional space with constant, delicate and
floating movement.

KNOPP FERRO: Lines in motion
12. September-30.November 2020
Solo exhibition at
Gallery Sonja Roesch, Houston, TX, USA
"The Austrian artist Knopp Ferro has made a name for himself on the international stage with installation sculptures. These elaborate sculptures float above the viewer as an expansive network of metal rods, all very slender and of varying lengths. The linear nature of the work is invariably delicate, continuously oscillating and causing the very nature shift based on its own internal rotations and the perception of the viewer. They are installed on the ceiling or wall, or stand in the room, and are complemented by models, drawings, and sketches."

Solo exhibition at
Gallery Smudajescheck, Munich, Germany
From the invitation:
Gallery Smudajescheck, Munich, Germany
From the invitation:
"Knopp Ferro can be seen for the first time in a solo exhibition in the gallery at Smudajescheck. For more than two decades, Ferro has been constructing its refreshingly light, graphic objects made of metal, which unfold their effect both indoors and outdoors. Many of his works move and change in the breeze or wind. Color or even gold leaf refine the raw metal. “My sculptures are three-dimensional drawings in space,” says Ferro. His work is shown internationally at trade fairs, museums and galleries. Ferro is represented in renowned private and public collections."

ZKM - Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe
The last exhibition, which explored the question "What is modern sculpture?", took place in 1986 at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris under the title "Qu'est-ce que la sculpture moderne?". The exhibition "Negative Space" at ZKM | Karlsruhe picks up the spear where the Centre Pompidou dropped it.
